Our ideology
Kanal 39

Kanal39 arose out of dissatisfaction with the cultural scene in Lower Austria.

As the artists' association ERWULF, we have articulated our unwillingness, made a name for ourselves and used the tailwind of the state and community to implement our demands for a contemporary cultural policy.

Kanal39 is the answer to the demand: Art needs space!

Gallery, event space, platform - Kanal39 is a place for the promotion and networking of still unknown artists.

All art genres should have a special kind of platform.

Erwulf

Created in 2010 in Baden. Conceived primarily as a protest note, wrapped around the pillars of the Arnulf Rainer Museum, taken down, confiscated, returned and sent in letter form to the obvious addressees. Spontaneous metamorphosis into an art association and a visionary alternative art form. Belonged to the state of Lower Austria in July, united in August, intensive, successful search for territory.
Renovation of Kanal39 as a gallery, venue and experimental laboratory. Erwulf could be the solution.

The Manifesto
We have merged the identities of Erwin Proell and Arnulf Rainer into one "Erwulf" and thus
elevated to an art object because we were looking for a way that would be effective in terms of media
to draw attention to the unedifying intertwining of politics and cultural management. We have succeeded.
By introducing Erwulf to Baden and wrapping him around the pillars of the Arnulf Rainer Museum.
We have received a lot of encouragement, but we believe that not everyone has understood us yet.
That was just the birth. Erwulf is subject to the laws of evolution. Erwulf has grown.
He now knows that something new only emerges where the norm ends and disorder begins.
Erwulf was intended as a kind of caricature, but he has become independent.
Its basis of existence is the great longing for a contemporary cultural policy;
this is our driving force, and at the same time a social need.
Erwulf asks himself: How utopian is an innovative art scene in the region?
Are operettas and musicals really the only way to get a hearing from municipal coffers?
Is the flower watercolor the answer to the cultural thirst of the urban border area?
Are vernacular rhymes all we have to say? Everything is automatically art if it's a local celebrity
escaped?
Does the spa guest determine the cultural program? Is silence sacred? Are uncomfortable people also promoted?
Will scholarships and funding be awarded transparently at some point?
And how utopian is an innovative cultural policy in Lower Austria?
The beginning was the Arnulf Rainer Museum. This is Erwulf's nursery.
Erwulf would like not only representatives of the elite to be invited to an exhibition opening there
to show off and suck each other's asses.
Erwulf wants a lively cultural scene there, people who paint, write, take photos and make art.
Erwulf travels to do this. And is constantly reinventing itself. That is why he translates text into image and image into music.
Erwulf transposes art forms so that everyone can understand why he is there. And why not.
We tell its evolution. She is unstoppable.

Max Neuman
Born 1986 in Frankfurt am Main. Painter, action artist. Studied fine arts at the Hochschule für
Fine arts in Brunswick.
Everything that is round enough to create dynamic movement is at the center of his work, as a subject and
as a tool. Spheres serve as color carriers, from glass marbles to massage balls, the images are created under
full physical effort. Max Neumann gives the spheres impulses that create a movement that is not direct
can be influenced. The work of art arises from the tension between deliberately set action and
uncontrollable reaction.
